At EagleRidge Roofing & Construction, we had the incredible opportunity to restore the floors of a beautiful Victorian home in Layton, Utah, originally built in 1885. The project involved installing high-quality hickory hardwood flooring throughout the main floor and master closet.
Challenges Encountered:
This project presented a few unique challenges, starting with the uneven subfloor, which was common in older homes like this one. To ensure a level foundation, we first poured self-leveling cement to correct the floor’s inconsistencies. In addition, plywood was installed to further smooth out the surface, providing a strong and even base for the new hardwood flooring.
Work Process:
Site Preparation:
We began by removing any previous flooring and prepping the subfloor for the new installation. The existing floor was so uneven that we needed to apply wafer board and plywood before pouring self-leveling cement to get everything in place. This was an essential step in ensuring a solid and stable surface for the new flooring.
Floor Installation:
Once the surface was leveled and dried, we carefully laid down the hickory hardwood flooring. The rich color and texture of the hickory wood brought warmth and charm to the Victorian space, preserving its vintage appeal while providing modern durability.
Finishing Touches:
As we approached completion, we made sure to install the final pieces of trim and flooring, paying close attention to detail to ensure a seamless finish. To protect the floors during the ongoing construction work (such as window replacements and painting), we covered them with protective paper, ensuring they stayed in pristine condition.
Quality Control:
Before wrapping up, we did a thorough walk-through, inspecting every corner of the project to ensure everything was completed to the highest standards.
